Tiara Brown (born June 1, 1988) is an American undefeated professional boxer and the reigning WBC Female World Featherweight Champion. Nicknamed “The Dark Menace,” Brown is equally famous for her trailblazing career outside the ring as a highly decorated former law enforcement officer. As of mid-2026, her professional record stands at 21 wins, 0 losses, and 11 knockout.
Brown was born and raised in Fort Myers, Florida. At age 13, she walked into the Fort Myers Police Athletic League (PAL) gym with her cousins and fell in love with boxing. Though a track coach initially convinced her to focus on running, athletics paved the path to her future.
Brown earned a full athletic scholarship to Columbus State University in Georgia. She ran on the university’s first-ever women’s cross-country team to reach the NCAA Division II Championships in 2009. She graduated with a degree in criminal justice, becoming the first person in her family to earn a college degree. While completing her studies, she resumed her competitive boxing training.

Following college, Brown relocated to Washington, D.C., where she joined the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). For years, she managed a brutal daily routine: waking up at 3:00 AM to train, working a demanding 10-hour shift patrolling the city’s Sixth District, and heading straight back to the boxing gym until late at night. Known warmly in her precinct as “Officer Friendly,” Brown excelled in her community-oriented approach to policing. In 2019, she made history as the first Black female officer to be named MPD Officer of the Year.
However, her relationship with law enforcement shifted during the national social justice protests following the murder of George Floyd. Believing systemic departmental overhauls were desperately needed, she stepped down from the MPD to stand up for her community. She briefly moved back to Florida to serve with the Fort Myers Police Department before transitioning into full-time athletic competition and community youth mentorship
WBAN covered Tiara’s participation in the first-ever Olympic Trials that took place in Spokane, Washington where she was vying for being one of 36 female boxers to go to the 2012 Olympics.
