
Yolanda Gonzalez has participated in Varsity Basketballl and Softball–she earned letters in both sports. She was awarded the “Most valuable player award” in the sport of Softball for two consecutive years and was the first recipient of the Pride Award given to the athlete who has exhibited excellence, in both academics and sports well as good sportsmanship. She was the first female from Harrison High School to receive a sports college scholarship. In 1987 Yolanda Graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Psychology. Honors included the Dean’s List.
In her senior year she was chosen to be a student teacher in the psychology department. In 1990, Yolanda Graduated from Columbia University with a Masters in Clinical Social Work, and graduated with honors. Three years later, in 1992, she graduated from CUNY Law School in Queens N.Y. where she earned her J.D. degree.
In 1994, Yolanda was admitted to the New Jersey Bar and worked for Legal Services of Hudson County practicing Family Law and then moved to Legal Services of New Jersey where she supervised the Family Law/Domestic Violence Unit. In 1998, Yolanda was able to accomplish another one of her goals, and became an Assistant Prosecutor in Passaic County. In that same year, Yolanda began to train in boxing.
Yolanda also participated as an amateur, and was the New Jersey 1999 Golden Gloves Champion, and the Diamond Gloves Champion of 2000. In addition, she received the honor of “The Fighter of the Night” in her very first amateur bout. Yolanda’s record currently stands at 7-3-0 with 3 Knockouts as of December 2001. In January of 2002, Yolanda was chosen as the WBAN January 2002 of the month.
