(AUG 23) This last Sunday, August 21, 2022, Carmen “La Guapa” Montiel, a significant pioneer of women’s boxing in Argentina passed away when she had died in a fire in her home. She was just 57 years old.
Carmen leaves with a legacy of being the second female boxer to be issued a professional boxing license by the Argentine Boxing Federation.
During her long boxing career that went from 2002 until 2009, accumulating 23 pro bouts. Her boxing record does not reflect the fact that she fought many of the best, which included fighting Marcela Acuna three times, Alejandra Marina Oliveras two times, Betina Garino, two times, and many others. Her first fight as a pro she fought 10 rounds against Acuna.
Prior to turning pro at the age of 31 years old, she had a reported 22 amateur fights. In the media the amateur fights were reported by Yésica Palmetta and Irene Deserti in their book “Abran paso”.
Although she could never be a champion, La Guapa was left with the merit of never having lost a fight by knockout.

Besides loving the sport of boxing, Montiel said that a childhood dream was to be a bodybuilder and to be able to own her own gym.
In one online article they said that Montiel had dedication herself to working with amateur boxers, also that as of more recent activity that she would ride her bike around in the neighborhood and would teach anyone who wanted that training.
She said, ” I wanted to create a space where people with problems could develop their muscles and improve their quality of life.”
