
Southpaw super featherweight Natasha Jonas, born on June 18, 1984, is a British professional boxer, with a current record as of January 2024, of 14-2-1 (9KO). Jonas began boxing in 2005, and she has won many championships as an amateur prior to turning pro. [top photo credit: vcfox]
As an amateur, she won a bronze medal in the lightweight division at the 2012 AIBA World Championships; bronze in the light welterweight division at the 2011 European Championships; and silver in the light welterweight division at the 2014 European Championships. She has won five ABA Championships in the 64 kg Division for Liverpool club Rotunda ABC.
According to Wiki, in November 2009 she became the first female boxer to compete for GB Boxing. In the same year she claimed gold in the 64 kg division at the 2009 Women’s European Union Amateur Boxing Championships in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria, after she overcame Csilla Csejtei of Hungary in the final. Jonas another gold medal in the inaugural GB Amateur Boxing Championships in 2010, when she pipped rival Amanda Coulson by one point in an exciting bout in front of her home fans at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
In 2012, at the AIBA Women’s World Amateur Boxing Championships, Jonas made history in Qinhuangdao, China in May 2012, when she reached the semi-finals of the 2012 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships to become the first ever female British boxer to qualify for an Olympic Games, she then went on to take the bronze medal and a place in the 2012 London Olympics back to Liverpool with her.
Also, at the 2012 Olympic Games, Jonas became the first ever British female boxer to compete at an Olympic Games. Jonas faced Queen Underwood of the United States defeating Underwood. Her wins set up a quarter-final bout with four-time World Champion, and Ireland’s Katie Taylor, andJonas lost to Taylor.
In June of 2017, Jonas made her pro debut, at the Walker Activity Dome, Newcastle, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom, Jonas, 135, won by a first round TKO over Monika Antonik, 136, of Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland. The bout was scheduled for four rounds. She had two more pro fights in 2017, defeating Bojana Libiszewska, 131¼, and beating Katarina Vistica.
Later in the year on August 4, 2018, at the Ice Arena Wales, in Cardiff, Wales, in a scheduled ten round bout, vying for the WBA Super Featherweight International title, Brazilian Viviane Obenauf, 130, won by a fourth round TKO over previously undefeated Great Britain’s Natasha Jonas, 130. Jonas was knocked down three times before the fight was stopped.
On April 21, 2018, at the Echo Arena, Liverpool, United Kingdom, Jonas, 129.5 won by a seventh round TKO over Taoussy L’Hadji, 128¼. The bout was scheduled for ten rounds, and they were fighting for the vacant WBA International Super Featherweight title.
On July 12, 2019, in Olympia, Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom, Lightweight Natasha Jonas won a six-rounder over Bec Connolly.
On August 7, 2020 – Matchroom Fight Camp, Brentwood, Essex, United Kingdom, in an exciting, all-action title bout, Terri Harper, 129¼. now 10–0-1 (5KO), of Yorkshire, United Kingdom, had a 10-round split draw with Natasha Jonas, 129, of Liverpool, Merseyside, United Kingdom. The final scores were 94-96, 95-95, and 96-95. Harper was defending her WBC and IBO Super Featherweight titles.
On May 1, 2021, at the Manchester Arena, Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom, Lightweight Katie Taylor, 134.5, won a ten-round unanimous decision over Natasha Jonas, 134.5. Taylor was defending her WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO lightweight world titles. Judges Final scores 96-95, 96-94, and 96-95.
In today’s news January 16, 2024, we now have 39-year old Natasha Jonas having a mural of her and celebrating the achievements of this elite athletic, who is a two-weight world champion Natasha Jonas. The mural was unveiled in Toxteth, Liverpool. The mural was painted by British Street Art Collective MurWalls.
