Lauren Price was born on June 25, 1994, in Newport, Wales, but grew up in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, where she was brought up by her grandparents. She attended Heolddu Comprehensive School in Bargoed. Price is a talented athletic that competed in football, netball, kickboxing, and boxing.
She was always encouraged by her grandparents who felt that she could succeed at any dream that she had for her future.
When she competed in kickboxing, at the age of 13, in 2007, she won a silver medal at a World Championships event in Athens. She also became a four-time world champion and six-time European champion in the sport and later competed in Taekwondo.
Price got involved in boxing as a teen, but what inspired her was when she saw British female boxer, Nicola Adams win a gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. On Wiki, they wrote the following: “After competing in a single amateur bout at 17, she entered the Women’s European and Youth World Championships where she claimed a bronze medal. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games, she became the first Welsh woman to claim a boxing medal in the Commonwealth Games after defeating Kaye Scott in the quarter-finals of the women’s middleweight division to guarantee at least a bronze. She met Ariane Fortin in the semi-final but suffered a split decision defeat.”
Wiki went on to report, “Price, also won another bronze medal at the 2016 Women’s European Amateur Boxing Championships. In 2018, she won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, after defeating Caitlin Parker via split decision in the final of the event. In May 2019, Price was selected to compete at the 2019 European Games in Minsk, Belarus, winning the gold medal. Price competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, beating Dutch boxer Nouchka Fontijn in the middleweight semi-final. She went on to win gold against Li Qian of China, making her the first Welsh boxer of any gender to win an Olympic gold medal. Price was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2022 New Year Honours for services to boxing.”
Price made her pro debut on June 11, 2022, at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, where she fought Valgerdur Gudstensdottir, 145, winning the bout by points, 60-54 scorecard.
Then on October 15, 2022, at the O2 Arena, Greenwich, in her second pro bout, Price, 145, won by a fourth round TKO over Timea Belik, 145 1/4. The bout was scheduled for six rounds.
On March 11, 2023, at the Zenith de Paris-La Villette, Paris XIX, Price, 146 1/2, won an eight-round unanimous decision over Naomi Mannes, 147. Final judges cores were 80-72, on all cards.
On May 6, 2023, women’s boxing saw a historic landmark in the sport. Boxxer featured the first-ever British Female Championship Fight, at the Resorts World Arena in Birmingham where Lauren Price faced Kirstie Bavington in a scheduled ten-round bout. Price, 146, won the ten-round unanimous decision over Kirstie Bavington, 146 1/4, and became the history first of the belt last night when she won by 100-90 on all judges score cards. She improved her boxing record to 4-0-0 (1KO). Bavington’s record is now 7-4-2 (2KO).
