Just like many female fighters, Jessica Flaharty started with the Martial Arts as a youngster in third grade with her father, Kurt. She started boxing 6 years ago at the age of 12. Karate and boxing have and still do play a major role in her life as a stress reliever, instilling values and discipline.
Jessica resides in Lancaster, PA with her parents and sister. She is a senior at Penn Manor High School and also attends the Lancaster County Career and Technical Center, majoring in desktop publishing. She hopes to some day pursue a career in graphic arts.
Flaharty was asked where she wanted to go in boxing. Flaharty enthusiastically, without hesitation, replies “To the top!, of course!”
After an amazing amateur career (12-6) and winning a very closely fought 2nd place in the Women’s National Golden Gloves last August in Augusta GA, the “Bomb Shell” was ready to turn “Pro”.
In December of2000, when Jessica Flaharty turned 18, she put her sights on the “Pro Circuit”.
Jessica’s pro debut was held on February 21, 2001, in Wilmington DE at the Big Kuahuana against Grace Jo Laco. The first round was a toe-to-toe “nail bitter”, but within one minute of round two, the “Bomb Shell” lived up to her reputation, delivering a hard-hitting “over-hand-right” that quickly dispatched the fight to a TKO in the second round!
Flaharty states that the reason she decided to turn Pro was to utilize and perfect her boxing technique as well as her power. Keep your eye on this new fighter! Her next fight is scheduled for April 13 at the legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia PA against Angela Nelson, who will be making her Pro debut.
