Ela “Bam Bam” Nuñez, originally from Puerto Rico, who fights anywhere from Junior featherweight to featherweight, won her first world title, when she defeated Dominga Olivo, in a 10-round bout at the Frontier Field, in Rochester, New York on July 31, 2008.
30-year old Nunez had fought Olivo on two different occasions, losing those two bouts by close decisions–but after making adjustments to her training and moving to Rochester to train, she was able to win in her third try by a unanimous decision, winning the IWBF Jr. Featherweight World title.
Nunez told The Demoncrat and Chronicle, “I did my dream. Since I was 10 years old, a little girl, this was my dream and I’m going to work hard to be a champion not just once but a couple of times.”
