It is shameful to be reading the irresponsible comments on social media, those writing them and those publishing them have zero moral integrity. It is our duty to set the record straight and stop this horrible inhuman attack on a person who is an example and motivation to the world.
It is deeply insulting in a sport that prides itself on diversity, that Alejandra Jimenez is being attacked for having the courage to live an openly gay lifestyle and manifesting an appearance that is pleasing to herself and her community.
Alejandra Jimenez is being bullied and deprived of her moment of glory. Instead, she should be lauded and praised as the role model she is.
Alejandra Jimenez is a 31 year old single mother. She gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Ailime, at the age of 21.
Alejandra was excessively overweight and at the age of 23 found a boxing gym, which eventually changed her life. She made her Professional debut 5 years ago at the age of 26.
She worked very hard, overcame all type of obstacles and conquered glory by winning The WBC heavyweight championship against Martha Salazar in Cancun in March, 2016.
She then found a new lifestyle and through exemplary effort and sacrifice set her goal to fight at Super Middleweight. This past Saturday night she defeated Franchon Crews Dezurn and became the Super Middleweight champion of the world. She underwent a complex out of competition VADA Testing program with all results coming negative.
The World Boxing Council is often rebuked because it has the strongest and most protective health and safety standards in women’s boxing; VADA Testing, Ten Rounds, Two minute rounds , Glove Sizes and mandatory pregnancy testing, among other safety mandatory measures.
We also have a history of social activism, fairness and diversity; Anti-bullying, Anti-drugs, Sportsmanship and Inclusion.
These unsubstantiated accusations hurled at our WBC Super Middleweight Champion, Alejandra Jimenez, offends the boxing community as well as society, but most importantly, Alejandra.
We are proud of our Champion, Alejandra Jimenez, her amazing accomplishments, and continue to stand by her.
