Svelta Taskova, born December 30, 1970, in Sofia, Bulgaria is one of a few that has entered the sport of women’s boxing. She has been involved in kickboxing, boxing, wrestling, and bodybuilding. Taskova began boxing in 1994, and she then got into kickboxing in 1997.
Taskova has found it difficult to be able to earn money in women’s boxing. Taskova said, “It’s still difficult, because there’s is no money in women’s boxing in Bulgaria. As in every other sport, somebody has to pay to organize Professional Boxing Night to invite managers to see us, so that international matches can be made. So I don’t want to talk about the training conditions. In our club Rondia sport we have a wonderful gym but the others have to prepare in miserable places.”
When Taskova was asked why she got into boxing, she had only one word for it, “Pleasure.” Taskova said that she has earned titles as a National Bulgarian kick-boxing champion, and Bulgarian National Amateur Boxing Champion.
